The Insiders: Way with words

We like to use this column as the Monitor’s spot to showcase the coolest thing to do in town each day. Today’s awesome event has a special little twist, however: we ourselves at the Monitor are behind it! Of course, the Insiders are known for our poetic way with words, but we aren’t the only one who know how make words go good. Poet Billy Collins, who was the United States Poet Laureate from 2001-03, receives the Donald Hall-Jane Kenyon Poetry Prize tonight at 7 at the Audi. Collins will sign books and read his poetry (your only chance to hear government-sanctioned poetry these days, as the government shutdown has current poet laureate Natasha Trethewey banned from making even the simplest of rhymes). Tickets are $10 and are available at the Monitor, Gibson’s Bookstore and at the door. For more information, email info@nh
writersproject.org.

Elsewhere, Mill Brook Gallery’s latest exhibit “Got ART Talent” opens today. The reception runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Meet the artists and convince them to paint you like one of their French girls! For more information, visit millbrook
gallery.com.
