No injuries in early morning Franklin house fire

A family escaped injury from a house fire Saturday after one member was “awakened by the sound of fire crackling” at about 2 a.m.

The two-story home at 25 E. Bow St., was badly damaged by the fire and is uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting the families find housing.

Franklin Fire Dept. Chief Kevin LaChapelle said the building did not have any working fire alarms. 

“The occupants were very lucky to have escaped injury,” he said in a prepared statement. 

The fire may have started in the kitchen, which was consumed, but the cause of the blaze is under investigation as of Saturday afternoon. 

Franklin, Sanbornton and Tilton/Northfield fire departments responded to the call.
