Full name: Newton Leroy Gingrich

Political experience: Ran for Congress unsuccessfully two times before winning in 1978; re-elected 10 times and served as speaker of the House from 1995 to 1999; best known for his involvement in a widespread GOP victory during the 1994 elections.

Brief bio: Gingrich was born in Harrisburg, Pa., and moved frequently as a child because of his stepfather's military career. He holds a doctorate in modern European history from Tulane University and has taught at several colleges. He has been married three times and has two daughters. 

Interests: According to his Facebook page, Gingrich likes "reading, writing, visiting zoos in different cities, going for walks, paleontology, science, politics, football, history (and) management theory."
