HillTown says no new sidewalks this year
The Hill select board didn’t really expect voters to approve a $100,000 sidewalk upgrade out of the blue at town meeting. Town Clerk Shelly Henry said the board’s goal was just to generate discussion – which happened.
“In the end this was tabled,” she said. She added that it could come back for next year’s town meeting, perhaps with some capital reserve funds attached to it.
Voters passed every other warrant article, though not without a few changes. The $992,116 budget was approved with an additional $3,200 to the library line, and voters eliminated the $20,000 appropriation to the road improvement capital reserve fund before passing the other $78,500 in appropriations.
Hill residents also agreed to reduce the town’s budget committee from 12 to nine members.
“There’s just not enough people coming out and getting involved,” Henry said.
