The Insiders: What kind of gift do you buy for a 250th birthday party?

Two-hundred-and fifty years old is pretty old. Think about it – you can probably only remember one or two teachers in grade school who were that old. You couldn’t tell from looking at it, but our fair city is about to reach that significant milestone. Well, in 2015. But it’s never too early to start planning!

And that’s why there’s a Concord 250 Community Forum tonight in City Council Chambers at 6 . Thanks to a faithful daily regimen of facial moisturizer and yoga classes from the 385 studios within its city limits, Concord doesn’t look a day over 245. But the big 2-5-0 is right around the corner, and tonight’s meeting is “to further engage members of the community to lead and participate in activities leading up to Concord’s 250th anniversary celebration,” according to event organizers.

You know what they say – 250 is the new 240! The big day is June 7, 2015, so mark it on your calendars. Or go out and buy a future calendar and mark it on that. But first, make sure you attend tonight’s meeting to help kick around ideas to make the celebration as memorable as possible.

All that planning and discussion will require energy, so why not do some carb-loading before the meeting by swinging by the Second Start Senior Spaghetti Dinner at 17 Knight St. at 5 p.m.? For the record, the dinner is to benefit senior students; it doesn’t feature senior spaghetti. The dinner is being held to raise funds for a senior class trip to Six Flags New England. You don’t have to attend the dinner to donate, but it is the only way to put spaghetti in your face while contributing. For other donations, mail or drop-off donations to 450 N. State St., and make checks payable to The Concord Insider Second Start. For more information, call 225-3318, email dbrenner@ssahs.org or visit second-start.org.
