Kenney takes N.H. council primary by 1,000 votes
The final tally in Tuesday night’s Republican primary for the first district executive councilor’s seat shows Joe Kenney with 1,000 more votes than his nearest competitor.
Official results released yesterday by the secretary of state’s office show Kenney with 3,622 votes to 2,622 for Christopher Boothby. Mark Aldrich was third with 499 votes.
Kenney faces Democrat Michael Cryans on March 11 for the Executive Council seat held for nearly four decades by Ray Burton, who died in November.
The five-member council works with the governor to approve state contracts worth more than $10,000 and appoint judges and commissioners. They also oversee a 10-year transportation plan.
District 1 takes up much of New Hampshire, 108 towns from just north of Concord to the Canadian border. Some 264,000 people live in the district.
