Andover School District annual meeting preview
The Andover School District meeting is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. in the Andover Elementary/Middle School gymnasium. On the warrant:
∎ The budget: $4,654,553, up $38,600 – or less than 1 percent – from the current budget. State revenue is projected to decrease an estimated $67,000, and the district will likely see a smaller end-of-year surplus, which together could add up to a large impact on the local tax rate, said Robin Heins, business administrator for SAU 46.
∎ Other warrant articles: A request for $50,000 for a sustainability study of the district’s facilities. Andover Elementary/Middle School was built in 1936, and has been added onto or renovated several times, but the board has concerns about the roof, heating system and fields, said board member Michelle Dudek.
“We want a comprehensive look at what the needs are for the future,” she said. The budget committee recommends both the budget and the special warrant article.
In total, the proposals and the shrinking revenues could add $1.49 to the local property tax rate, which is currently $18.75. Those calculations don’t account for any surplus from the current budget, Heins said.
While it’s unlikely the district will see a surplus equal to last year’s $309,000, it’s simply too early to estimate what might be available at the end of the year, she said.
∎ Contested elections: None.
