The Insiders: Why weren’t we in the Bengal lancer movie?
We were many things before we were celebrated newspaper columnists, like less celebrated newspaper columnists (current level of celebration inflated by family commentary). Little-known fact: We were also once Bengal Lancers. Nobody ever made a movie about us in that capacity, but someone did make a movie about Bengal Lancers, appropriately dubbed Lives of a Bengal Lancer, which will be shown today at 4 p.m. at Red River Theatres as part of the “Lights, Camera, Action! Series” with Barry Steelman.
It must be a good movie, because it was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including best picture and director, and stars Gary Cooper, Franchot Tone and Richard Cromwell. It doesn’t star Tim Goodwin and Keith Testa, but we’ve covered that already (not bitter).

Also today, the Merrimack Music Series continues at the Audi with a free show beginning at 3 p.m. Ellen Theresa Fagan will take the stage, followed by Lauren Hurley at 4 p.m. Having the pair of up-and-coming artists on the same stage prompted the organizers of Merrimack Music to say the night “promises to be one of Merrimack Music’s best.” For more information, visit concordcommunityconcerts.org.
