Daniel Webster, Scott Brown – can you tell them apart?

In the 19th century, Daniel Webster represented New Hampshire and then Massachusetts in Washington. In the 21st century, Scott Brown represented Massachusetts and ultimately hopes to represent New Hampshire. If Brown succeeds, he’ll sit at Webster’s desk in the U.S. Senate. Webster was known as a great orator. How does Brown stack up? Check out the quotes below and see if you can tell who said what.

1. “For many members of Congress, the time for choosing is near – do what the party leadership demands, or do what the people have asked you to do. If my colleagues don’t mind some advice from a newcomer, I’d suggest going with the will of the people.”

2. “There is always room at the top.”

3. “Rarely have elected leaders been so intent on defying the public will.”

4. “A strong conviction that something must be done is the parent of many bad measures.”

5. “Had I not grown up hungering for a family, I might never have appreciated the one I am blessed with now.”

6. “What a man does for others, not what they do for him, gives him immortality.”

7. “The most important thought that ever occupied my mind is that of my individual responsibility to God.”

8. “Each and every day that I’ve been a United States senator, I’ve been either discussing issues, meeting on issues, in secret meetings with kings and queens and prime ministers and business leaders and military leaders talking, voting, working on issues every single day.”

9. “Our Constitution and laws exist to protect this nation. Let me make it very, very, very clear: they do not grant rights and privileges to enemies in wartime.”

10. “The contest for ages has been to rescue liberty from the grasp of executive power.”

Are you people at the Monitor soft? Mentioning a great American with Scott Brown in the same article is just ludicrous.

I think that is the point, how ludicrous it is. Scott Brown is a very good looking man ( I saw his centerfold) but he reminds me of Palin I think there is no "there" there. They would make a great reality show together. Or have they already done that on Fox?

Bite your tongue tillie . . . Scott Brown makes Sarah Palin look like George Will.

OOPS . . . I think I said that wrong . . . Sarah Palin makes Scott Brown look like George Will . . . there, that's better.

I wish "whatever" had been one of the choices.

I'm a NH Republican. I liked Scott Brown when he ran in MA. I wish he had managed to defeat the great faker Liz Warren. That being said, I would be opposed to Scott running in NH this soon. Perhaps maybe 10 years down the road would be better. Good God man, at least let the NH license plate on your truck fade and get dirty before you decide to run! Yes, I know Hillary did the same thing in NY. However, Hillary is a Dem and rules, laws, and just "doing the right thing" doesn't apply to them.
