The Insiders: A night of music, dance awaits

As you may have already known (especially if you’re a faithful reader of our daily column and if so, we thank you) we’re done with snow, the cold and messy roads – all the good stuff that comes with winter in New Hampshire.

And quite frankly, we’re sick of waiting day after day for warmer temperatures and the sweet sight of grass. Can you really blame us?

But tonight at the City Auditorium, the Petit Papillon Ballet of New Hampshire will give us a reason for optimism with its opening performance of The Root Children at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, $8 for children and seniors. If you can’t make it tonight, there will be another performance on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The ballet adaptation of the 1906 German story is about root children who sleep underground during the winter before emerging in the spring. And we can all agree that a little bit of spring – real or not – would be a breath of fresh air.

The ballet, choreographed by Patricia Walker and Kelly Doremus Stuart, will reflect many area of dance, set to modern and new age music. It will take you to a fantasy world reflecting the forest home of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other critters. We even heard there’s a part where the children spend time cleaning and painting beetles and bugs. But that’s all we know. The rest you’ll have to see for yourself.

How can you go wrong with an evening filled with dancing? The answer is you can’t.

And while it’s cutting it a little close, there’s a chance you can still get a ticket to the Concord Community Music School’s Bach Birthday Bash faculty concert tonight at 7:30. The school’s talented group of teachers will take center stage to pay tribute to the famous composer, on what would have been his 329th birthday. Most concerts at the school do sell out, so to reserve your seat call the school at 228-1196. And we mean call right now. Don’t even finishing reading this sentence. Tickets are $20, $15 for children and seniors.
