Hassan, N.H. businesses to visit Turkey in June
Gov. Maggie Hassan will lead a handful of New Hampshire businesses to Turkey for a weeklong trade mission in June, her office announced yesterday.
“This trade mission will build on the progress that helped make New Hampshire the fastest-growing state for exports in 2013 by helping our businesses find new opportunities in Turkey’s growing market,” Hassan said in a statement.
Five businesses, including motorcycle manufacturer Rokon International Inc., are signed up for the trip. Businesses can apply until April 25, and the trip will cost $2,500 per business. The visit was organized with the Department of Resources and Economic Development, the Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey, and the Turkish Cultural Center in Manchester.
Turkey is New Hampshire’s 12th-largest trading partner, and state companies exported more than $79 million goods and services there last year, according to Hassan’s office.
“(In Turkey) there are increasing opportunities for our businesses, especially in areas such as aerospace and defense, health and medical technologies, education and construction machinery,” said Jeffrey Rose, commissioner of the Department of Resources and Economic Development.
The state budget passed last year increased money for trade assistance and provided new money for trade missions. Last year, New Hampshire increased business exports by 22 percent.
