Concord smoke shop employee charged with sexually assaulting customers
An employee of a Concord smoke shop was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting five women, including two teens, in the past year, the police said yesterday.
Gulshan Sharma, 55, of Hooksett was charged with 11 Class A misdemeanors, including sexual assault and simple assault, and two Class A felonies of aggravated felonious sexual assault, Lt. Timothy O’Malley said in a statement. He did not describe any of the alleged assaults.
O’Malley said Sharma first came under suspicion in January when a woman reported that he had sexually assaulted her inside Jimmy’s Smoke Shop on Loudon Road, where he was an employee. She said she was a customer at the time, O’Malley said.
Detectives later identified four additional victims, all under the age of 21. One, who is about 20, said Sharma had assaulted her at some point between last May and January of this year, O’Malley said. He said two other females, one who is about 18 and the other who is described only as an underage teenager, reported the same thing. The younger teen said Sharma had also “given her a green smoking device in spite of the fact that she was under the age of 16,” O’Malley said.
A second underage teen reported being sexually and physically assaulted by Sharma sometime between November and January, O’Malley said.
The owner of the smoke shop was unavailable yesterday for comment, according to an employee.
Sharma turned himself in yesterday on an arrest warrant and has since been released on $41,000 cash and personal recognizance bail, O’Malley said. He is scheduled for arraignment in Concord’s district court May 12 at 8:30 a.m.
