The Insiders: Learn to match art to decor

We get it. Designing your home can be difficult and stressful.

Trying to match that special piece of art with wall colors and furniture isn’t easy. But if your situation seems bad, just think about our task of trying to find the perfect balance of colors to go with Keith’s painting of the Green Martini for the Insider redesign. Lets just say, our work area currently has a unique look.

Luckily, the people at the Kimball-Jenkins School of Art want to make it easier on you. That’s why they are hosting a five-part workshop series, featuring prominent New Hampshire interior designers, called “Crafting an Artful Home.”

Tonight’s first installment, led by Shawna Taylor, will help eliminate any conundrum about that favorite piece and its proper place in your home. We wonder if she does work with cubicles? Dissecting a piece of art and using its colors, texture and style to design a room is Taylor’s forte, and here’s a little secret – she’s willing to share hers with you. The cost is $30 for tonight’s workshop, which begins at 6 p.m., or $120 for all five. Sign-ups at the door are welcome.

When it comes to birds, Kevin Wall of the New Hampshire Audubon has you covered. He’s kind of an expert on them and wants to help you learn more. So if you like birds of prey, then tonight’s talk at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Headquarters on Hazen Drive is the thing for you. Wall will help distinguish the different species and there will be live birds there, too. The talk is free and begins at 7 p.m.
