The Insiders: Run all 5 of these Ks with NHTI and Northeast Delta Dental
Today is a day to put the K in canine, which doesn’t make any sense. But it would have made even less sense to call a race a 5canine, so work with us a little. Anyway, all this babble is hurting our teeth, so we’ll just cut straight to the point – this evening is the NHTI/Delta Dental 5K at Northeast Delta Dental. And it’s the 10th annual! So come celebrate the anniversary.
The 5K begins at 6 p.m., with a children’s fun run slated for 6:45 p.m. (Disclaimer: Level of fun depends on the child’s desire to run). Get there bright and early, though, because registration and pre-race events start at 3 p.m. And, in what should come as no surprise to anyone who reads us regularly (thanks to all three of you!), our favorite part is the post-race barbecue. We sometimes like to pull a Rosie Ruiz and show up only for the barbecue in a sweaty shirt with a number printed on it as if we’ve run the entire course.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the NHTI Jennifer Kemp Memorial Scholarship, and there will be awards for the top three finishers in each race category. For more information, visit nhti.edu/5k.
Also today, Red River Theatres will be showing King of Kings, a 1927 silent film referred to as a “Biblical blockbuster,” which is an awesome phrase we might just start using to describe all kinds of cool stuff. Tickets are $10, and the film will be shown at 7 p.m. Visit redrivertheatres.org or call 224-4600 for more info. In the music world, True Brew Barista is hosting the third Yourband.info Solo and Duo Night, featuring musicians from the area at 8 p.m., and RoseMary’s Baby Blues is playing Makris Lobster House at 8:30 p.m.
