Woman dies after SUV collides with fire truck

The state police said a 62-year-old Deering woman is dead after the SUV she was driving collided head-on with a fire truck.

Authorities say Kerry Ainsworth was traveling northbound on Route 149 on Sunday evening in Deering when she crossed into the southbound lane.

Troopers said the driver of the fire truck, William Bannister, tried to avoid a collision by veering into the northbound lane, but Ainsworth swerved back and crashed head-on into the truck.

The state police said Ainsworth was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Bannister and another firefighter suffered minor injuries.

WMUR reported that the firefighters were returning from a brush fire in Deering when the crash occurred. Investigators say the fire was caused by power lines rubbing against a tree. It was contained to 2 acres. No injuries were reported.

The state police continue to investigate the fatal crash.
