Concord man indicted in extreme child abuse case involving infant

A 26-year-old Concord man accused of gravely injuring his girlfriend’s infant daughter and then for hours failing to tell anyone has been indicted by a Merrimack County grand jury.

Scott Diberto of 23 Ormond St. faces 14 felony counts of first- and second-degree assault in the Jan. 26 incident, which left the then-14-month-old child with severe brain damage, according to officials. Diberto was supposedly baby-sitting the infant at the time.

The assault charges are subject to enhanced punishment because of a statute against acts of “exceptional cruelty.”

Diberto has also been indicted on five misdemeanor counts, two for child endangerment and three for simple assault. According to a police affidavit, he left the child home alone for a time to purchase beer from a local store.

As long as he gets at least 30 days in prison, he will get what he deserves there. Not all people should be allowed around children just because you can have a child doesn't mean you can be a parent. The mom is blameless here, yea right. As you can see my progressive tendencies don't extend to those that attempt to kill or abuse children. There I am strictly draconian - no second chances and zero exceptions.
