The Insiders: If you love balloons, do we have something for you
It’s hard to argue with the cool factor that comes with balloons. What else can you stretch and fill with as little or as much air as you choose to create something like an animal or invention? We’ll tell you what – nothing.
And it just so happens that the Concord library will be the center of the balloon universe today. Well maybe not the universe, but at least for the city when Jungle Jim’s of Boston gives free hands-on Rube Goldberg-style presentation of “How to Catch a Mouse: Simple Machines at Work” at 11 a.m. in the auditorium – and you guessed it, the whole thing is done with balloons.
Now if you’ve never heard of Goldberg, he was famous for taking a simple contraption and making it extraordinarily complicated with the use of arms, wheels, gears and handles, put in motion by balls, boots, paddles and live animals. We don’t anticipate seeing any wild animals, but you never know with Jungle Jim.
And the best part is that members of the audience won’t just sit there and watch. You should expect to help and one of you will even receive a special surprise. (Now don’t tell the kids, but there will probably be some learning going on, which we know they frown upon during summer vacation. Hey, we were young once.)
