Authorities treating lake for invasive plant

Authorities are trying to stop the growth of an invasive plant in sections of New Hampshire’s Lake Opechee.

The Citizen reported nearly 22 acres of the lake will be treated with an herbicide to halt the growth of milfoil.

After the chemical application, planned for next week, divers from Aquatic Control Technology of Massachusetts will attempt to remove remaining milfoil plants by hand.

The New Hampshire Lakes Association said milfoil is not native to the state and is extremely difficult to control when entrenched in lake beds.
