Man charged in Gilford burglary
The police said a 21-year-old man broke in to a Gilford home, scuffled with a resident inside and fled the scene.
Isaiah Hughes, 18, with no known address, was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with burglary, a felony, and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest or detention and breach of bail conditions. About 3:30 a.m., a female caller told the police she had an altercation with a man who broke into her home on Breton Road and then fled on foot.
The police made contact with Hughes 20 minutes later, at a house a quarter of a mile away from scene of the alleged break-in. They said he tried to flee and resisted officers who were detaining him.
The police said they identified Hughes based on physical evidence left at the scene.
Hughes was arraigned in Laconia’s District Court and held on $1,000 cash bail and $5,000 personal recognizance. He is due back in court Tuesday.
At the time of the alleged incident, Hughes was on bail for three misdemeanors stemming from two arrests in June.
