Dunbarton fills police officer position
The Dunbarton Police Department has selected Officer Jason Patten to fill a new full-time position that residents voted to add at this year’s town meeting. The town’s selectmen approved the choice at a meeting Thursday.
Patten currently works part-time for the Dunbarton Police Department. His full-time status will take effect Sept. 1.
In his new role, Patten will cover several part-time shifts that the department is cutting to meet the more stringent budget requirements approved at this year’s town meeting.
“Once September rolls around, the town will be getting more hours than what they have now,” said Dunbarton police Chief Daniel Sklut. But “less than what we had anticipated we would be able to provide.”
The town has seen an uptick in activity, calls and burglaries this year, he said.
