Lightning strikes tree, sets house on fire
Firefighters said a house fire in Wolfeboro happened when a nearby tree was struck by lightning and the charge traveled down the tree to the home.
Everyone inside the house got out in time Thursday. A Tuftonboro firefighter was hurt. He was taken to a hospital and later released.
The fire was reported at about 5:20 p.m. It was declared under control about 9 p.m.
Authorities also said lightning struck the Sugar Hill post office Thursday.
WMUR reported that officials said the lightning strike shorted out the electrical system, destroyed a computer and other equipment, causing about $10,000 in damage.
