A 61-year-old Sanbornton man has been charged with attempted murder after authorities said he shot his grown son in the legs Sunday night at 228 Steele Hill Road.

Lloyd Barnard has also been charged with first-degree assault, Sanbornton police Chief Stephen Hankard said in a statement. A judge yesterday ordered him held on $100,000 cash bail.

Barnard’s son, Colter Kuss, 36, of Belmont, suffered multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds from the incident, Hankard said. He was taken to Lakes Region General Hospital shortly after emergency officials responded to scene, about 9:15 p.m. Details about what preceded the gunfire have not been released.

The Sanbornton Fire Department and the Belmont, Tilton and state police, as well as the Belknap County Sheriff’s Department, assisted with the response. An investigation was ongoing, Hankard said.
