The Insiders: The air is conditioned and the screen is showing cool stuff at Red River
Labor Day weekend is said to mark the unofficial end to summer, but if you happened to have spent more than 15 seconds outside in the last few days, you’ve noticed the emphasis is still heavy on the unofficial part. It’s warm enough to cook an egg on the Insider staff! (please don’t, though). But we’ll take as many sunny, summery days as we can get this time of year. Especially when there are air-conditioned respites available at night, like tonight’s installment in the descriptively-named Great Movies on Wednesday Evenings With Barry Steelman series at Red River Theatres. Westward The Women will be shown as part of the series tonight at 8, with a brief post-film commentary and discussion.
The movie centers on “a wagon train containing 150 women bound for California to meet mail-order husbands.” If that doesn’t sound like grounds for zaniness, we don’t know what does. But if that’s not enough, the movie also features appealing black-and-white photography from the filming in Kanab, Utah. You should go see it, in our professional opinion.
