Letter: Where were the winners?
Disappointed and let down. That is the sentiment I felt when I read and saw the photo coverage for the Capital Area Cross-Country Championship on the front page of the Oct. 20 Sports section.
The lead photo of the 68th-place finishers from Belmont and Newfound was certainly dramatic, but why was there not a single photo of the Top 10 finishers, more specifically of the first-place finishers, Concord’s BJ Smith and Smita Boesch-Dining? Are we so politically correct now that we do not even recognize top performers? Not a single photo, including online, of the top finishers from Concord were posted. Wow!
I understand that the weather was poor and this may be your excuse, but certainly not a valid one. Regardless, a great big congratulations to BJ Smith and Smita Boesch-Dining for winning the race and a job well done to the girls’ cross-country team for winning the overall race! Shame on you, Concord Monitor, for not recognizing Concord’s finest! Good luck next week at the state championships, Concord.
