Officials: Cause of Northwood teen Haley Martin’s death undetermined

The state medical examiner’s office has ruled a Northwood teenager’s cause of death undetermined pending toxicology results.

Haley Martin, 19, was reported dead Tuesday – eight days after the Concord police charged her with allegedly punching a police officer who caught her and a young man tagging a Concord dumpster with graffiti, according to court documents.

The police, who were notified of Martin’s death Tuesday afternoon by Concord Hospital, say they are investigating what happened but haven’t commented on possible causes. They also haven’t said why the hospital contacted them.

Concord police Lt. Timothy O’Malley said yesterday that Martin was brought to the hospital, and the police “suspect (it’s) a possibility” she wasn’t alone at the time of her death.

“We’re still looking into this,” O’Malley said. “We’re certainly going to do our due diligence to find out what happened.”

The police have no indication Martin’s death was a homicide, O’Malley said.

Dr. Jennie Duval, the state’s deputy medical examiner, said she expects to receive toxicology results in four to six weeks.
