Concord High tryouts

Concord High will hold tryouts for its winter sports on the following dates and times:

∎ Alpine skiing: Nov. 19 in Room E3 for meeting/practice at 3 p.m.

∎ Nordic skiing: Nov. 19 at Memorial Field from 3:15-5 p.m.

∎ Ski jumping: Nov. 19 in CHS gym foyer at 3:45 p.m.

∎ Girls’ basketball: Nov. 19, freshmen/sophomores from 3-5 p.m. and juniors/seniors from 5-7 p.m.; Nov. 20, Session I from 3-5 p.m. and Session II from 5-7 p.m.; Nov. 21, freshmen/JV from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and varsity from 10 a.m.-noon, all at the CHS gym

∎ Boys’ basketball: Nov. 26-28, freshmen/sophomores from 6-7:30 p.m. and juniors/seniors from 7:30-9 p.m. at the CHS gym

∎ Cheerleading: Nov. 26 at Rundlett Middle School in the multi-purpose room from 3:30-6 p.m.

∎ Boys’ ice hockey: Nov. 19-20 from 3:55-4:55 p.m.; Nov. 21 from 1:15-2:15 p.m., all at Everett Arena

∎ Girls’ ice hockey: Nov. 21 and Nov. 23 from 3:55-4:55 p.m. at Everett Arena

∎ Indoor track (boys and girls): Nov. 26 at CHS Main Street at 3 p.m.

∎ Swimming: Nov. 14 and Nov. 19 from 8-9:30 p.m. at Concord YMCA

CCHL results

In week 4 CCHL action, Alan’s defeated Cheers, 8-5. Scoring for Alan’s were Clint Edinger (three), Ed Caron (three), Shayne LeBreton and Cam Heath. Cheers got its goals from Chris Acres (two), Corey Laroche, Corey Cotnoir and Taylor Smith.

Windmill picked up a win over Cimo’s, 9-6. Windmill had goals from Bill MacDougall (three), Joel Arsenault (two), Travis Banga (two), Chris Doherty and Nick Dominici. Cimo’s received scoring from Tom Carroll (two), Matt Nadeau, Alex Smith, Ben Cannon and Joe McCormack.

Egounis honored

University of New England field hockey player Laura Egounis, a Boscawen native, (Boscawen, N.H.) was named ECAC Division III New England Defensive Player of the Week after leading UNE to a pair of conference victories, including one over unbeaten Endicott.

Camps/clinics/lessons

Bonner Camp is offering two new weekend basketball camps. These will operate as preseason training camps to give each participant a jumpstart into the upcoming basketball season and ensure preparation heading into school and travel team tryouts. Each weekend will be broken down into separate groups for boys and girls. Professional basketball player Luke Bonner will be the director of these camps. The first camp is today-Sunday at Rundlett Middle School for 5th-8th-grade boys and girls. The second camp is Nov. 9-11 at Bishop Brady High School for 9th-12th-grade boys and girls. Basketball coach clinic hosted by NHTI will take place Sunday. Under the direction of men’s basketball Coach Paul Hogan, the clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. with a collection of speakers from the high school and college ranks. The clinic is open to the first 75 coaches and interested coaches should contact Hogan at phogan@ccsnh.edu to receive a registration form. Special group rates are available for coaching staffs.

The UNH volleyball team is hosting the free Wildcat Kids’ Club clinic Sunday following the team’s match against UMBC at 1 p.m. The clinic is available to children of all ages and features a meet-and-greet autograph session as well as an instructional clinic with members of the UNH volleyball team on the fundamentals of the game, including hitting, serving and defense. Free hockey clinic put on by the NH Jr. Monarchs in conjunction with Tri-Town Ice Arena will be held Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. All who enroll and skate that day will have chance at winning one of the Free Learn to Play Hockey Classes (valued at $159). Concord Parks and Recreation is offering the following programs: Basketball for grades 3-6 for Concord/Penacook residents; basketball for grades 7-12 for Concord/Penacook residents; Tae Kwon Do for ages 5 to adults on Saturdays starting Nov. 3; youth and adult archery lessons for beginners to advanced on Fridays and Saturdays; indoor futsal for grades 3-6; adult open gym at Green Street Community Center for ages 18 and under Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10 p.m. For information, call 225-8690 or visit concordnh.gov.recreation.

Basketball coaches clinic put on by the New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization (NHBCO) Fall Coaches Clinic will be held Nov. 3 at Exeter High School. Two clinics are offered, one for high school coaches featuring Dartmouth Men’s Coach Paul Cormier from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and one geared for grades K-8 youth coaches from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Discounts are available for coaching staffs and youth organizations. UNH track & field clinic will be held Nov. 18-19 at the Paul Sweet Oval and the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field facility, located at the university’s Field House. The clinic will run from 6-8 p.m. on both days and is open to all athletes in grades 7-12.

Concord YMCA is offering the following programs : youth lacrosse, TEEN strength and sports conditioning and Couch to 5K. The youth lacrosse program will be for kids ages 7-16 and will gather twice a week on Thursdays and Saturdays. TEEN strength and sports conditioning will be for ages 13-18 and will meet Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. The Couch to 5K is a 10-week program intended for ages 12 and up.

Tryouts/registrations

Basketball tryouts will be held a the Concord Boys and Girls Club as follows: The 5th- and 6th-grade girls’ tryout will be tomorrow and Sunday from 9-11 a.m. The 5th- and 6th-grade boys’ tryout will be Sunday and Monday from 6-8 p.m. The 7th- and 8th-grade girls’ tryout is Nov. 2 from 6-8 p.m. and Nov. 3 from noon-2 p.m. The Club is also accepting applications in the 3rd- and 4th-grade, 7th- and 8th-grade and 9th- and 12th-grade divisions. NH Lightning softball team is looking for players to compete in its 2012-13 U12 season. Tryouts will be held tomorrow at Concord’s Martin Field at 11 a.m. Contact Jacob Denoncourt at jacobdenoncourt@comcast.net or George French at georgefrench@tds.net.

Pembroke Rec youth basketball will hold signups at the Pembroke Library Monday from 5:30-7 p.m. The league is for boys and girls in grades 1-6, with hopes of starting a preschool and kindergarten group. If signup night cannot be attended, slips are available at the Pembroke Town Hall. Registration fee is $15 and the deadline is Nov. 7. Parents signing up after deadline will be assessed a late charge of $10.

Rundlett signups for winter sports will be held as follows: boys’ and girls’ basketball (7th-8th grade), Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 in the main gymnasium; girls’ cheerleading (6th-8th grade), Nov. 14 from 3:30-4:30 in Room 204; wrestling (6th-8th grade), Nov. 14 from 3:30-4:30 in the cafeteria; boys’ and girls’ Nordic skiing (6th-8th grade), Nov. 14 from 3:30-4:30 in Room 508.

Hillsboro-Deering High School will hold signups for its upcoming winter sports season Nov. 9 at 2:15 p.m. at the following locations in HDHS: boys’ basketball will meet in the gym, girls’ basketball in the cafeteria, cheerleading in the library, indoor track in Room 222, and Alpine skiing in the modular French room. Tryouts will be held on the following dates at 2:40 p.m. at HDHS: boys’ basketball Nov. 19 in the gym, girls’ basketball Nov. 12 in the gym, cheerleading Nov. 12 in the cafeteria, indoor track will hold practice Nov. 26 at the school, and Alpine skiing will hold practice Nov. 19 at the school. All athletes trying out must have either a physical already on file with the school nurse or have a current 2012-13 physical to turn in to their coach. Any athlete without a physical on file or one to turn in may not participate until doing so.

Blue Storm indoor soccer is accepting registrations for Leagues U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-19. All are rec divisions and are co-ed. Teams are limited to the first 13 signups. Register online at bluestormsports.com. Email questions to bluestormsports@yahoo.com.

CHS winter sports, students in grades 9-12 interested in signing up or trying out for a winter sport should attend the sport specific meeting Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the following locations: girls’ basketball (Room 2041), girls’ hockey (Room 2047), spirit (Room 2043), boys’ basketball (gym), boys’ hockey (Room 3090), wrestling (Room 2138), indoor track (mini gym), Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping (student center, with ski jumping at 3:15 p.m.), swimming (Room 2037). Battle of the Badges hockey, to benefit the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, is calling for NH Police and Fire departments to send players for the 6th Annual CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship. Tryouts are at the Verizon Wireless Arena Nov. 6 and Nov. 13. The game will be held on a Saturday night in March at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Go to CHaDhockey.org.

Events

U14 Lady Cannons softball team is hosting a Halloween Howl at the Concord Sports Center tomorrow from 1-4 p.m. There will be open batting cages, an inflatable slide, sports games and more. All ages are welcome; $10 per child or $20 for the whole family.

NH Legends of Hockey will hold their Hall of Fame induction ceremony Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord. The inductees will also be recognized prior to the Manchester Monarchs game against the Binghamton Senators at 4 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Gold Level seating is available at a discounted price of $15 to the organization. Induction tickets may be purchased by mailing a check to the NH Legends of Hockey to 329 Currier Road, Hopkinton, NH 03229, or on the website through PayPal for $40. Flag football tournament will be held Nov. 3 at NHTI. Teams can be co-ed and need to have 10 players. Registration is $80 if paid before Oct. 27 and a $100 fee for teams that register after Oct. 27. Play will be seven on seven. Games will be two timed halves. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team as well as the team with the best uniform.
