UNH men’s hockey team plays to 0-0 tie with Northeastern

Casey DeSmith stopped all 34 shots he faced to guide the 11th-ranked University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team to last night’s scoreless tie against 15th-ranked Northeastern. Huskies senior netminder Bryan Mountain stopped a career-high 44 shots to record his first collegiate shutout.

UNH finished October unbeaten at 4-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Hockey East. Northeastern is 2-2-1 both overall and in the league.

The scoreless tie was the first one in the 163-game rivalry dating back to Jan. 10, 1931. It is UNH’s first scoreless tie since Jan. 5, 2001, against Maine. The Wildcats, who captured a 4-3 win on Friday night in Durham, earned three points on the weekend and have their best start since the 2007-08 season when they had an identical 4-0-1 mark.
