Mass. man suspected of assaulting 17-year-old woman in Weare arrested Thursday night
A Massachusetts man wanted by the Weare police for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman Tuesday was arrested Thursday night in Haverhill, Mass.
Jonathan Maguire, 20, of Groveland, Mass., was also wanted on charges of second-degree assault, theft of a motor vehicle, simple assault, attempt to commit sexual assault, criminal mischief and obstructing the report of the crime.
Investigators located the victim’s Jeep Liberty, which Maguire allegedly stole after the assault, Thursday morning, and located and arrested him later in the day, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshal’s Office.
Maguire was held Thursday night in Massachusetts; he waived extradition yesterday and will be brought to New Hampshire sometime next week, Weare police Chief Gregory Begin said yesterday.
“We are relieved for the victim, victim’s family, and the community that the quick apprehension of a violent criminal by virtue of commendable multi-jurisdictional efforts,” the Weare police said in the statement. “This will aid in the healing process and begin to restore a sense of community safety.”
