N.H. foreclosures drop 12.6 percent in September

The state is on track to see fewer foreclosures in 2012 than in any year since 2009, the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority announced this week.

A total of 263 foreclosure deeds were recorded in September, the agency said, down 12.6 percent from the 301 foreclosures in September 2011. Through the first nine months of the year, foreclosures tracked nearly 4 percent lower than in 2011 and 13 percent lower than in 2010, the authority said.

“While still potentially approaching 3,750 foreclosures, this year’s numbers could be a sign that the worst truly is behind us,” the Bedford-headquartered authority said in a news release.

A total of 3,467 foreclosures were recorded in 2009. That number jumped 14 percent to 3,953 in 2011 and ticked down 2.3 percent to 3,863 last year. Through September, 2,843 foreclosures were recorded in New Hampshire.
