Speeder, reaching 100 mph, nabbed by police

The state police arrested a Holderness man on a number of charges early yesterday after a high-speed chase on Interstate 93 in Northfield.

Stevan Spead, 22, was pulled over just past midnight on the southbound side for driving 95 mph, the state police said in a press release. He then left the scene before the police could question him and topped 100 miles per hour, according to the release.

Spead pulled over and was arrested without incident. The police quickly discovered that the Buick Lesabre he was driving had been stolen in Rumney earlier in the evening. Spead was wanted out of the Grafton County Sheriff’s Office, had a bench warrant from Plymouth’s district court and was driving with a suspended license.

He was charged with receiving stolen property, aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct, disobeying an officer, operating after suspension and possession of a controlled drug.

Spead is being held at the Merrimack County House of Corrections and will be arraigned in Franklin’s district court on Tuesday.
