PHOTOS: Thanksgiving at the Windmill

 • Linda Vayens holds a dog treat for her service dog Silver while eating at the annual Thanksgiving community dinner at the Windmill on November 22, 2012. "I'm having my Thanksgiving meal; this is hers," she said about the treats she kept in a little pouch. This was Vayens first year at the community dinner. Despite being a nearly life long resident of Concord, she said she had somehow hadn't heard of it until this year, but is glad she came.

(ANDREA MORALES / Monitor staff)

Turkeys were served and pies were devoured. A holiday mainstay, the annual Thanksgiving community meal at the Windmill Restaurant in Concord, brought out scores of community members, as well as Gov. John Lynch and his wife. Restaurant owner Louis Smirnioudis and his family put on the meal every year with the help of donations and volunteers. Even though it has been going on for more than 20 years, the meal continues to bring new people out for the first time.
