Letter: Senators must support clean energy incentives

The Nov. 25 article “Climate change skeptics take aim at state energy mandates” (Sunday Monitor front page) highlighted the importance of continuing state support for renewable energy. Those who deny climate change will put New Hampshire behind the rest of the country, as other states embrace clean energy and create millions of green jobs. New Hampshire is dependent on fossil fuels such as coal and oil, which are not environmentally friendly or a solution to the economy.

The Heartland Institute is concerned with cost of renewable energy in comparison to fossil fuels. However, this ignores the fact that 30,000 Granite Staters currently rely on wind power to run their homes. The support of so many residents shows the affordability of renewable energies. Further, the costs of renewable energy are greatly reduced through tax credits. However, these are due to expire at the end of the year.

I urge Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte to support clean energy incentives, such the renewal of the production tax credit and the investment tax credit. These tax credits will support New Hampshire as it looks forward to a cleaner future.

Is that meant to be a threat?????? do wind farms have negative effect on the environment? SUNY New York researchers believe so. They studied the surface area temperatures at the four largest wind farms in the world...all in Texas. Night time temps were 1.3 F higher in areas of the wind farm. That warming you speak of is likely due solely to mixing of the cooler air at the surface during nigh-time with warmer air above. While this is likely to make for micro-climate changes--of the same sort that orchards rely on when they use windmills to mix the air when frosts are predicted--the overall warming from wind turbines is NOT due to their adding waste heat from combustion--something coal, gas fired plants, and nuclear plants can't claim. This claim is on more effort to defame wind energy when ALL the negative environmental effects of wind turbines pale in comparison to those of fossil fuel plants.
