Letter: Don’t leave animals outside in the cold

I love my dog. What a great companion and so dependent upon me to care for her. With the cold weather upon us, I find she just wants to go out quickly, do her business and come right back in to her warm bed. So I wait for her by the door, and when she’s ready in she comes.

I enjoy those who walk their dog, carry a bag to clean up after their pet and step a little faster as they walk by when Old Man Winter seems to chase them on their way.

But what I don’t understand is how anyone can leave such a beautiful gift as our animal friends outside for long periods at a time on such cold days and nights. A barking dog is most likely trying to say, “Please let me in.”

So when it’s doggone cold out, please put down that TV remote or that plate of mac and cheese. Please let your pet in. No one and no animal should be left out in the cold!

The only animals we should leave out in the cold are those that toppled and broke dozens of head stones in a Deering cemetary
