Webster Lake Dam repairs expected to drop Chance Pond's water level
Repairs will begin on the Webster Lake Dam this month, causing a special drawdown of Chance Pond in Franklin.
The drawdown will coincide with the annual winter drawdown, and will result in an estimated 5-foot reduction in the pond’s height through April.
The repairs will be conducted by the Department of Environmental Services Dam Bureau, which will repair the spillway by removing deteriorated concrete and placing new concrete on the overflow spillway. Previous dam safety inspections have indicated a need for the concrete in the dam to be replaced, said Ken Fenemore, assistant chief engineer of the bureau.
The drawdown will start on or after Dec. 17 and the levels will stay reduced until April 1. The levels of Webster Lake itself will only be reduced by the standard two feet during winter.
