Letter: Shaheen is working hard
I have been watching the press coverage of the fiscal cliff debate in the U.S. Congress, and already I can see how that coverage generates a broad-based sense of frustration and impatience with all members of Congress, House and Senate. The fiction of false equivalency is beginning to take hold.
There are some in Congress who are working hard to keep the American middle class from suffering yet another devastating economic blow. The senator I admire most, Jeanne Shaheen, was called away from her family this past holiday so she could cast her vote, and lend her voice, to the process of returning fairness to our economy. She deserves recognition for all that she is trying to do.
So I’d like to say thank you, Senator. Keep up the good work. Don’t stop fighting for sensible and fair solutions to the problems that confront us. We are all better off having you working for us in the Senate.
