Letter: A simpler plan for the skate house might be better
While strongly supportive of new investment in White Park, I am concerned about the proposed skate house design as presented in Wednesday’s Monitor. Judging by the architectural drawing, the structure and surrounding patios would expand the paving-over of the eastern side of the park that began with the construction of the overly large parking lot in 2008. More of the park’s already limited green space would disappear. Is a large for-rent banquet facility really necessary, or could a simple warming house with bathrooms provide the needed amenities in a much smaller footprint? As the planning moves forward, I hope the design committee and city council will consider simpler options that prioritize preservation of green space and reduction of new bricks, concrete and asphalt in one of Concord’s most special outdoor spaces.
