It’s the classic fairy tale of a pea and a prince who is desperate to marry a real princess, and this past week 71 Penacook Elementary School students prepared for a musical version of “The Princess and The Pea”; auditions were held Monday and, despite Wednesday’s snow day, performances were planned yesterday afternoon for the school and last night for the community. It wasn’t until yesterday morning that the students were handed their costumes and finally saw their characters. “It’s transformational,” said Kathy Bush, a second-grade teacher at the school and president of Children’s Stage Adventures, which ran the weeklong theater residency at the school.
