Concord High School makes security updates

Several new security measures have taken effect at Concord High School. Planning for the new procedures began several months ago but were accelerated following the mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., Principal Gene Connolly said.

Those updates include:

∎ Visitors must now sign in and out at the main office.

∎ Parking is prohibited in the fire lane at the main entrance, but parents can still use it as a dropoff space. Fire and emergency personnel will still have access to that space.

∎ Vehicles cannot enter the walkway from the parking area next to Westbourne Road. That area is meant for pedestrians and people with disabilities, and barriers will be put up to block vehicles.

∎ Starting Monday, the building entrance on Westbourne Road will be open only from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. A new security camera has been installed at that entrance and is connected to the main office. Visitors with disabilities can gain access after that time by ringing the buzzer at the door, but all other visitors are expected to walk around to the main entrance.
