It was quiet mid-morning on Lake Sunapee on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013. Ben Sherman had set up his shanty on Sunday, Jan. 27, and today he came out with his son’s Jack Russell terrier, Trixie, to add some finishing touches. He brought rugs to set on the floor and bedding for the bunks, he said he often stays overnight on the weekends. Sherman also made sure to take advantage of the snow that had accumulated on the lake to provide insulation around his shanty. As Sherman and Trixie were leaving, Matt O’Mara and Guy Chamberland were setting up in their shanty and catching smelt. Most of the smelt will be used as bait when O’Mara and Chamberland set up lines in the deeper part of the lake, but they also said they might eat some of the larger ones. O’Mara baited one of the larger smelt and set up a hole farther out on the lake. Then he went back to the shanty to read a magazine and wait, while Chamberland continued to catch smelt.

Newport is NOT on Lake Sunapee....and poor photos - this article gets a thumbs down
