Red Sox sign first baseman Lyle Overbay to minor-league deal

The Boston Red Sox signed veteran first baseman Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract yesterday, according to several sources.
Overbay will have a chance to make the team as a left-handed bat to go along with another newly signed free agent, right-hander Mike Napoli.
Overbay, 26, played with Arizona and Atlanta last season, hitting a combined .259 with two homers and 10 RBI in 131 plate appearances. As recently as 2010 he was a productive hitter, belting 20 homers with 67 RBI and a .243 average with Toronto.
The 12-year veteran is a career .270 hitter with 133 homers for Arizona, Milwaukee, Toronto, Pittsburgh and Atlanta.
