Shots fired in Henniker, two arrested

The Henniker police arrested two men in a restaurant parking lot early yesterday morning, charging one with firing a handgun after he allegedly was attacked by the other suspect.

No injuries were reported.

Arrested were Joseph Wilcox, 51, of Sutton for attempted aggravated assault, and Jeffrey Wigsten, 47, of Henniker, for simple assault.

According to a press release, officer Matthew O’Connor was across the street from the Gin Gin Restaurant in Henniker when he heard gunfire and, soon after, a witness yelling for someone to call the police.

O’Connor found Wilcox kneeling with a handgun by his side, and Wigsten standing in the distance, taking cover behind a parked car. Wigsten allegedly assaulted Wilcox, who the police say then pulled out a handgun and fired it toward Wigsten.

It wasn’t clear last night how many shots were fired, and the Henniker police had no further information.

Wilcox is being held on $25,000 cash bail and will be arraigned tomorrow. Wigsten was released on $2,500 cash bail and is due in Hillsborough’s District Court on March 5.

This is the sort of thing that lowers the tone of The Crescent.
