Main Street water shut off in Concord to repair leak
Water was turned off on Main Street last night while the city repaired a leaking water main.
City crews discovered standing water on North Main Street in front of Joe King’s Shoe Shop this week, according to General Services Director Chip Chesley. The leak came from a clamp installed in 1994 to fix a pipe that dates to 1892.
“The water basically bubbled up to the surface so we knew that there was a problem,” he said.
Yesterday, crews dug a hole in the street and pumped out leaking water, Chesley said. Water was shut off at 10 p.m. between School Street and Hills Avenue to begin repair work.
Chesley said yesterday that work would continue throughout the night, and water should be restored to North Main Street buildings this morning. Crews will work today to repair the excavated pavement.
