Letter: Don’t cry – organize
Re “From Gore, a grim warning” (Monitor editorial, Feb. 7):
Yes, Al Gore is prescient, and his new book presents grim warnings about future climate change and the inability of Congress to pass climate change legislation because it is controlled by the wealthy.
But stop scaring your readers and start empowering them. Tell them to take to the streets.
Join the Feb. 17 march in Washington (noon to 4 p.m.) designed to send President Obama a clear message that the people appreciate all his climate change actions which he has pursued in the face of a dysfunctional Congress.
If your readers cannot join the march, let them call friends and relatives who live in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware or Washington, D.C., and urge them to go to the march.
And let them call the White House and offer words of support for the president’s position to stop the Keystone XL pipeline, and his intentions to issue more emissions regulations as long as Congress refuses to enact a revenue-neutral carbon tax which would reduce emissions in a more efficient manner than regulations could.
