Golf pro Julie Donlon hired for Beaver Meadow
The city-owned Beaver Meadow Golf Course in Concord has hired a golf professional.
PGA professional Julie Donlon will begin work this spring, the city announced yesterday. She will replace former golf professional Ed Deshaies, who worked at the golf course for 30 years. Deshaies had worked as an independent contractor to the city. Donlon will become a city employee under a new plan to bring revenue to the golf course, which has lost money in recent years.
Parks and Recreation Director David Gill proposed a restructuring of the course last fall, under which the course could earn revenue by selling its own pro-shop items and golf lessons. The city council approved the changes in December.
Donlon is a “Class A” PGA professional whose experience includes work at the Portsmouth Country Club for the past three years, according to a press release.
“Julie indicated she is very excited to be joining the team at Beaver Meadow and is looking forward to helping the course continue to improve the operation and grow the game of golf,” Gill said in a press release.
