Letter: An asset to Penacook
Re “Penacook Elementary principal to retire” (Monitor Local & State page, Feb. 8):
Upon hearing that the Merrimack Valley School District will soon have an opening for a new Penacook Elementary School principal, I couldn’t help but reflect on a former Penacook Elementary School principal, Jon Russell.
Many of us worked for Russell for many years. He was a teacher and principal for close to 40 years in this district. Penacook was richer for having known him. He was a real asset to the school and the community. He had a fair, softhearted, kind approachable manner with an offbeat sense of humor.
Russell truly was there for the staff and had a great rapport with the kids. He always said, “We are here for the kids!”
The day we lost him was a sad one. Let’s find another gem like Russell.
