Shaker Regional School District board chairman resigns

The chairman of the Shaker Regional School District board resigned last week, citing personal reasons and increased time demands.

Preston Tuthill of Belmont has served on the board for 11 years and has three daughters who went through the school system. He made the announcement at Friday’s school board meeting, and his resignation will be effective March 10.

“Board members, administrators, teachers and staff are all as committed to the success of public education in Shaker Regional School District and New Hampshire as I am,” he said. “It has been very rewarding to work with all of them, and I wish them all success in the future.”

Since the filing period for elections at the district’s annual meeting on March 8 has closed, the board will appoint Tuthill’s successor. In 2014, there will be an election for a three-year seat. Anyone interested in being appointed to the position should send a letter of interest and statement of qualifications to the school board, courtesy of Superintendent Maria Dreyer, by March 1. The candidate must be from Belmont, which has four seats on the board, compared with Canterbury’s three.
