Man arrested after police chase on I-89
A 34-year-old Contoocook man was arrested yesterday after fleeing from the police on speeding down Interstate 89 in a Dodge Dakota pickup truck.
Lawrence Martell, a Contoocook resident, was wanted by authorities in connection with a domestic violence simple assault charge and was allegedly suicidal and armed with a knife at the time of the arrest, according to the police.
The chase began in Henniker and ended on the interstate after authorities blew out the truck’s front left tire. Martell jumped from the vehicle before it rolled to a stop in the median. He was arrested and taken to Concord Hospital for a psychological evaluation.
He will be arraigned in the district courts in Hillsboro and Concord on the domestic abuse charge, as well as on charges of resisting arrest, reckless driving and disobeying, an officer at a later date.
