Concord Parks and Recreation Department moves to former Dame School

The Concord Parks and Recreation Department will open its new offices in the former Dame School building tomorrow.

The city acquired the former elementary school on the Heights from the Concord School District last year, and has renamed it the Heights Community Center.

The department offices are closed today while equipment is relocated from White Park, said David Gill, the city’s parks and recreation director. The offices will open at the Heights Community Center on Canterbury Road tomorrow at 9 a.m.

“Everything is on track,” Gill said about the move, which began yesterday.

The parks and recreation department will use the building until the city builds a new community center on the site. That project is currently planned for 2015.

This summer, the community center will hold most of the city’s summer camp programs.

Next Wednesday, the senior programs in the West Street Ward House will move to the Heights Community Center, and the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association will host a walk-in senior clinic. The association will begin holding a clinic for seniors on the second Wednesday of every month. For more information about the health clinics, call 224-4093.
