Police: Men broke into Concord apartment, assaulted woman

Two men forced their way into a Concord apartment this afternoon, assaulting a female and taking money before they left, the police said.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. at an apartment complex at 58 Branch Turnpike, according to the police, who said the men broke in through a locked door. Those individuals – described as wearing jeans, dark hooded sweatshirts and light-colored ski-masks – have not been found by the police, and Lt. Tim O’Malley said the public should be watchful considering the brazen nature of the home invasion.

“The fact that this happened at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, the fact it happened in a fairly large apartment complex, and given the nature of the incident, we are concerned,” he said.

O’Malley said the police were initially notified by a neighbor who thought a domestic disturbance was going on in the apartment. Officers who arrived at the scene a few minutes later, though, found the victim, who was extremely distraught, O’Malley said. The woman was treated at her home for non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Concord Regional Crimeline at 226-3100.
