Belmont man charged with burglarizing seasonal home
The Belmont police issued a safety reminder to seasonal property owners yesterday after charging a Belmont man with burglary.
According to the police, Timothy Champagne, 17, turned himself in Saturday on warrants for burglary and prohibited sales for allegedly breaking into a Tucker Shore Road home in late February. He told the police the seasonal home had been used as a place for underage drinking.
The police went to the seasonal home in Feb. 28 after receiving a call about suspicious activity from a neighbor. After the police identified Champagne as a suspect, he confessed to the incident, the police said in a press release yesterday.
The police urged owners of seasonal homes to keep driveways plowed even if they are not using the home in the winter. They also urged property owners to have someone check on their homes regularly if they cannot do it themselves and asked that suspicious activity be reported to the police department at 267-8350.
